Refrigeration is not only a kitchen problem. When The Flower Bar Café at the Duke Shopping Mall in Victoria, Gozo, needed dedicated cold storage for its flowers, the solution required the same careful thinking that goes into any commercial installation: the right temperature, the right capacity, and the right fit for the available space.
We designed, supplied, and assembled three Boxcold modular cabinets at the venue, each purpose-suited to floral storage. It was a project that sat outside the usual catering brief, and one that reinforced something we come back to regularly: cold storage requirements are as varied as the businesses that need them.

What the Boxcold modular cabinet is
The Boxcold modular cabinet is a distinct product category within the Boxcold range. Unlike a conventional walk-in cold room, which requires a dedicated room or substantial floor area, the modular cabinet is built from the same high-performance insulated panels as a full cold room but configured as a freestanding storage unit.
The units can be specified with solid or glazed doors, in single- or multi-door configurations, and with internal accessories to suit the stored product. For The Flower Bar Café, solid-door units were specified throughout.

Refrigeration where space is the constraint
A business may need refrigeration in a room that was never designed to accommodate it, or may require multiple independent temperature zones without the footprint to support a bank of upright cabinets. The modular cabinet addresses both situations. Because the units are built from insulated panels rather than conventional cabinet construction, they can be positioned side by side and arranged to suit the available space without significant structural modification.
Cold storage is not a problem that belongs only to kitchens. Wherever temperature-sensitive products are held, the same principles apply: consistent conditions, reliable performance, and a format that fits the space rather than fighting it.
For installations in older buildings, narrow rooms, or venues where back-of-house storage was a secondary consideration in the original design, this kind of flexibility matters. The three units at The Flower Bar Café run in a row within a compact storage room, with a ceiling-mounted refrigeration unit overhead, making efficient use of a space that a conventional walk-in could not have occupied.

Design, supply, and assembly
Our involvement covered the full scope: design, supply, and assembly. The configuration was planned to meet the specific storage demands of a floral retail business, where consistent temperature is as important to product quality as it would be in any food operation.

The Boxcold range is available through Spiteri Catering, and the modular cabinet can be specified for a wide range of commercial and retail applications. If you are planning a new cold room installation or replacing an existing one, we would be glad to talk through what your space requires.
